Malmal Cotton or Mulmul Cotton is the softest, lightest form of fine cotton and is popularly also known as muslin cotton. It has a soft, fluffy texture which makes for airy, light and extremely comfortable fabric. Its quality of high absorbency is substantiated to be skin friendly in nature. Its feather soft finish feels like butter on your skin!

Mul-Mul is a versatile, multi-purpose cloth used in dressmaking, furniture polishing, theatre sets and even medicine. It is a healthy, organic fabric and does not spread chemical residue. Most importantly, it is reusable and stops the cycle of waste. It is a pure cotton fabric, without any synthetic fibre blended in it and therefore it is sustainable, environmentally friendly and durable.

Muslin is believed to have originated in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The fabric has been around for more than a thousand years and is the pride of India. It began to be traded by the British, and even though the usage of the fabric declined, with the passage of time it was revived again and is now found in most wardrobes around the world. Once it was introduced to Europe in the 1600's, it became a popular material for clothing as it was lightweight, easily washed and dried, and versatile.

In the harsh summers of a tropical country like India, one of the best ways to keep your body cool is by wearing a fabric like Mul mul cotton, which guarantees to keep you sweat-free, no matter where you go. Its highly absorbent nature will feel light and airy against your skin.

The fabric has a thin-ness and transparency that is associated with fine qulality the world over. Some wearers find it too diaphanous and prefer to have their mul cotton garments lined so as to be more opaque. Its a matter pf personal choice, but this aspect should not be mistaken for poor quality, in fact quite the contrary: the more thin and transparent the mul mul, the finer its quality.

The best way to care for your Mul Mul Outfit is to hand-wash with a gentle liquid detergent. Dry it in shade, but not for a very long time. If preserved correctly and well cared for, it will last for years to come.

Worried about the the fabric shrinking? If taken care of properly, mul mul will not shrink. It should not be soaked in water prior to washing. Most good brands take care to pre shrink the fabric before stictching it into garments. Being breathable in nature, the fabric absorbs moisture and keeps you at ease even in scorching heat.

Mul Mul Cotton is the country's favourite fabric currently without a shadow of doubt. Many designers are curating styles made out this beautiful fabric and showcasing it in modern silhouettes. Merarang.com has introduced a wide range of dresses made out of this beautiful fabric. Why not make them yours, this summer?
